We are doing a Science unit next week on Bugs. Are there any FIAR books that have fictional character bugs in them. Do you know of any other picture books that have bugs as characters. I have plenty of fact books about bugs, I am looking for story type of books.

Thanks a bunch for your help!

The Little Butterfly (fact based but story like, similar to The Little Rabbit)
Daddy is a Doodlebug
The Grouchy Ladybug
The Hungry Caterpillar
The Hermie series by Max Lucado
Crickwing (excellent, IMO)
A Pocketful of Cricket (a little longer but still a picture book)
Wormy Worm
Sluggy Slug (silly little books but cute)
Inch Worm Helps Out
Inch by Inch
Berenstain's A Book
I Can't Said the Ant
100 Ants
Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears (Great folktale)

Our favorite bug book of all time is Ant, Ant, Ant!: An Insect Chant by April Pulley Sayre. It's a beautifully illustrated book with bug names set to a rhyming, musical rhythm. This is tops on my 3 yr old's Christmas list.

The Bee Tree is about a grandfather and granddaughter who chase bee's to a bee tree so it not a book of facts but the bee's are not fiction either. As a go along for this book we read Mr. Bumble by Kim Kennedy and Winnie-the-Pooh and Some Bees.

Wow, I didn't realize there would be so many.

I will check out the library and see what they have.

The Bee Tree and Truman's Aunt Farm are the only two. Truman's Aunt farm is about AUNTS not ANTS but many people teach ANT lessons with this book.
