Or at least find the right color candles to make my own?

We use little short, fat candles we found at Walmart. We use three purple & one pink and then a larger white candle in the center.

I'd recommend fatter candles too. In the advent wreaths with long taper candles, the candles tend to tip and look crooked. Guess how I know?

I'd suggest fatter candles on a pretty plate. :) I've also used dollar store candles and greenery which worked well too.

We use the short fat votive candles. I could never find the colors I wanted and I wanted unscented so I bought them online:

If you are having problems finding candles, you could making pink and purple advent candles (http://catholicicing.blogspot.com/2010/11/make-pink-and-purple-advent-candles.html) using melted crayons.

I've also seen families simply tie purple and pink ribbon to clear votive glass.

Growing up...since my mom was from Germany....we just used red. :)

Beautiful! I saw those last year but (dense me) I do not understand how they work. Can someone explain it to me? Do you move the candle toward the last hole? ( but there is more than 1 candle) Do you place enough candles in each hole? ( But there isn't a candle for each hole.) I am baffled. I am only just learning the 4 candles in a traditional wreath.

Yes, I do have one. All of my family loves it. After much discussion (color candles? bunches of candles? etc), we decided to use just one candle with Mary riding into the circle, moving the candle and Mary closer to the center each evening.

Then for Lent, we'll add the other piece to make the spiral 40 and have Jesus carrying his cross from the center out ~ representing Jesus going out to the world. We'll probably still use one candle then. I think its beauty is the simplicity.

I've got three different advent wreaths! One uses votive candles but the problem is that the candles melt to the glass votive. Any tips for getting the candle wax off? The next one I bought is very non-traditional in style and uses tealights. It doesn't look very "Christmasy" although perhaps I need to spruce it up with greenery. I received another this week from CBD and it uses 10" tapers. Wish I had read your comments about using fat candles instead of tapers as I can understand your comment about them looking crooked.

Here are a couple of resources that have advent wreaths. CBD has free shipping code until Dec 9 if you spend $35.

See, I didn't press the button! No $ around here. Hopefully they're only sold out for this year and he'll make some more.

I like the look of ours and what it says on it, but I don't like that it's so small and that the candles are so tipsy. I'd like to find another one larger and more sturdy with non-tilting candles. Perhaps for next year...

ETA: Here (http://www.rosary-religious-inspirational-gifts.com/advent-wreath-pewter-sundays-advent-p-1171.html) is ours; I paid about $25 for it.
