View Full Version : Need some good Valentine craft ideas

Hello all. I'm looking for some fun Valentine activities/crafts for the kiddos. Something a little more in depth than red paper hearts (our usual craft ) Any great ideas? Thanks.

what about making cards and sending them to a local nursing home or children's ward at a local hospital. We have a shut in/ nursing home list at our church and we try to send cards every other month

We're making pink, heart-shaped cookies with a cookie press this year. :) We'll wrap them and give them to my dc's friends. :)

I picked up a press for $5 (after Christmas clearance :thumb: ) at Kmart. Here's the one I got: http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?sku=2104-4011

Btw, have you checked out the Family Fun website??? I can always find something there.

:hi: I noticed your sig line. My word of the year is also LOVE.

I'm planning to purchase a 12 pack of heart shaped ornaments that I saw at Michaels for $2.99 and a little metal tree (70% off now.)

Picture of ornaments and tree (http://www.how-to-arts-and-crafts.com/valentine-ornaments.html)

then write words from 1 Cor 13 and maybe other verses on each.

(Love is....)
Bears All

It's a project that can stay up all year.

Another idea, to encourage my children who aren't behaving too loving toward one another is to put up a chart/posterboard labeled ACTS OF LOVE.

Have the paper hearts available to write every time I catch my children doing acts of love -- service, affirmation...ect. Write what they did on the heart and put it on the board.
Beforehand, of course, explaining that saying, "I love you" -- LOVE is just a word unless we show it.

Using the example of James 3:14-26 -- verse18....demonstrate your (love) to me without works, and I will demonstrate my (love) to you from my works. (yes, I substituted the word LOVE....) To explain that we can say I love you over and over, but unless our actions show love, those words can seem empty.

I hope that made sense. I haven't thought it out all the way, but those are my intentions.

ETA: Just reread the verse you have in your sig line.....very fitting for the lesson of showing love through action!!

Last post. Sorry. LOVE has been on my mind a lot.

Another fun idea we've done in the past is a St. Valentine's Day Party (http://filledwithjoy.typepad.com/filled_with_joy/2009/02/st-valentines-day-.html).

It was very last minute, but with what we had around the houes, we were able to have heart shaped cookies, heart shaped jello jigglers, heart potato stamping, shell game with cups, musical chairs..........

Something fun and tasty we're going to do is make sweetheart candy wreaths.

This one uses cardboard vs. a foam wreath.

This is the one we'll be doing:

This website has great ideas on V-day homemade wreaths if your interested.
