that a kid who lost one toe-nail to infection would STOP chewing his toenails.

"Mom . . . how high are my chances of getting another toenail infection? What if my toe is bleeding because I chewed down too far?"

Then I did it. I asked why he was chewing the toenail again.

"I had to get the bug out."

Yes, girls. He claims that there was a bug stuck under his toenail. It may have been a tick. I didn't see it. He flushed it right after he got it out. Ugh.

I did mention that most of our toenail clippers have files attached. That MIGHT be a better way to clean under a toenail.

I have to say I've never heard of toenail biting...:eek:

My 20yo dd bites her fingernails so bad, that a few weeks ago, she got an infection and had to get it lanced in the ER.. she still chews her fingernails

Gross. I have a friend who's son does this, and he too had an infection in his toe nail. He too still does it.

Nail biting is beyond a bad habit -- it is a form of OCD, and it's very difficult to stop doing. People who nail bite will often so other signs of obsessive or compulsive behavior (minor as they may be).
