A facebook friend is going through having her son tested for possible autism. I told her I'd ask if you guys knew of any resources for her. Any great websites I can point her to for info or academic help? Based on her other FB posts, I think he is high functioning, verbal, etc. He is young elementary and I think it was a frustrating school year. Not sure if the troubles were behavioral or academic or what.

Thanks for whatever you've got for me!

Jen, are they local--do they have him going to the developmental ped at GHS? They take forever to get into, but have done a good job with my friend's child. Do they homeschool? At my friend's appointments they suggested homeschooling--they haven't gone that direction, but it was suggested to them.

Family Connections is a good place to start assuming they are in SC.
http://www.familyconnectionsc.org/ There is a local support group that meets once/month I think. Their mailing list is good.

There is even a support group in Simpsonville now for homeschooling kids on the spectrum. Skim to Sville on the list: http://www.squidoo.com/upstate_homeschool_support

If he does get a diagnosis of autism, they can apply for TEFRA Medicaid esp. if they pursue ABA therapy which is pricey.

 and prayers

She is in Easley, I think. (High School classmate) Her son is in public school. I'll pass on your info. Thank you!
