Y'all, I just found out about a wonderful organization. I'm pretty fired up about it and I know many of y'all will be, too.

The organization rescues dogs from local shelters and trains them to be service dogs for disabled vets. The training is specific to meet the needs of the vet.

It costs a lot of money to train a dog, but this service is provided free to our vets.

Any dogs starting the program but unable to fulfill the qualifications is adopted into a home.

Freedom Service Dogs operates totally on donations. There is a donation opportunity through Greenies pet products that only asks you pledge to walk your dog a certain amount, chosen by you, each week. Greenies makes the donation.

What a great way for our vets to get service dogs, dogs to get a second chance a life, our own pets and ourselves to get exercise. What a great service project for homeschool groups, scouts, etc.

Here are some links.

This link is for FSD; you can find out more about them here:

http://www.freedomservicedogs.org/ At their site, you can find out ways to volunteer, ways to donate, or even how to adopt a dog.

This link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbJ0rN78RFQ is a youtube clip telling you how to pledge to walk your dog. Greenies has set up milestones. Each time the pledge totals reach 25,000 miles, Greenies will fully fund six service dogs.

You know you’re already walking your dog anyway, right? :D What an easy way to help one of our military heroes get a service dog.

And if you don’t have a dog, this is a good reason to get one! And you could even walk your neighbor’s dog… I can see the opportunities growing here!
